   @Garrett – I wish you the same. You, me, and the others I listed are filling a need. I think there is enough of that need for all of us to keep busy.

   It’s a slow and steady process, but I’m building a small base of clients with a semi-steady stream of projects. Building good relationships with clients is key. I’m realizing how much a good old fashioned phone call (rather than lifeless emails) can do to foster a more human connection.

   @Andy – I have been in the business since the end of December, so around 3 months. I have got: 34 different clients, so thats around ten a month! Just keep on and you will get the same.

   You’ve managed to make a nice list there!

   I wouldn’t worry much if there are so many slicing businesses out there, this is a very big market and one thing you’ll realise is that if you treat a client well, they’ll be loyal to you and keep coming back since most orders will come from designers or design firms.

    @everyone – Hey, I just want to thank everyone who has sent me their sites so far!

    I intend to keep this list maintained as a resource for anyone searching for xhtml/css coding services. I should use a broader name (29 is no longer accurate) – any suggestions?

    @ Laura – Thanks for checking in. You’ve got me there! Luckily I’ve been busy on client projects, and just haven’t had the time to put together the “About” page or even a portfolio for that matter. I’ll be putting these pages up in the near future so for now, here’s a little bit about me/Aloe Studios:

    Name: Andy Ford
    Location: Sacramento, California, USA (born and raised!)
    Aloe Studios was started in February of 2007. After doing complete web sites as a solo freelancer, I decided it was time to specialize doing what I do best and enjoy most: XHTML and CSS. I’m a sole proprietorship and I do not outsource. I love NBA basketball and my favorite colors are brown and blue.

    That will have to do until I get my “about” page together!

    I had no idea there were so many sites offering this service. After seeing a banner ad for PSD2HTML I contacted them but didn’t receie a response for days. They advertise “XHTML in 8 hours” but what does that mean if they don’t even respond to your email for 3 days??
    I ended up using another service I saw an ad for, wellcodeit.com. I was working under a deadline and they were quick to respond to every email, which made things easy. I haven’t tried these other sites, so I can’t compare, but I would use them again.

    @Sam – Thanks for sharing your experiences. I had found “We’ll Code It” last week, but have been too busy to update the list. Hopefully your experience with PSD2HTML is not typical – I don’t know those guys, but they have been around for longer than just about everyone else.

    I recently had a potential customer’s email get caught in my spam filter. The customer wanted several gambling sites done (which I won’t do), and mentioned them all by name/url in the email. They all had either “casino,” “poker,” or “gamble” in the name… and I’m sure that’s why their message went to the spam folder. Just to give PSD2HTML the benefit of the doubt, I wonder if something similar could have occurred if your email had certain “trigger words” that would get it flagged as spam. (just a theory)

    As for We’ll Code It, I don’t know those guys either, but they really have a lot to offer. I’m impressed that they are willing to even touch email design. That’s something I just don’t do, and I’ll probably be referring potential clients who need email design over to them.

    Your list is a great resource. I have reviewed all 39 coders web sites. I hate to reveal my selection method but unless a site has some testimonials and examples of their work, I am moving on. BTW, everybody claims to write “valid” code but plenty of the examples given don’t validate. A word to the wise.

    I also look for an email address. I hate using comment forms because most of them don’t offer to send an email copy to me so I have a record of my request. Finally, a black mark for anyone who doesn’t respond. How do I even know that anybody is there?
